About Mike and Judith Foreman

In 1971, Mike and Judith came to Minneapolis to join Center Opera which later become Minnesota Opera. Mike was hired as resident bass-baritone, and Judith was hired as costumer for the men in the company. They came from Milwaukee where Mike had been head of the voice department at University of WI Madison.

Mike holds a Doctorate of Performing Arts, and has taught at Colorado University at Boulder, The University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, and the U of M. Judith has been a costumer, draper, and pattern maker for Minnesota Opera and Vee Corporation -Sesame Street Live.

In the late 70's, Mike and Judith founded the Minnesota Singers Theatre. The company specialized in training young singers in light opera. Mike was the managing director, set designer and builder, as well as prop maker. Judith was the stage director, choreographer, costume builder and box office manager. The company was active for ten years and toured HMS Pinafore and La Pericole through Allied Concert Services throughout the Midwest.

Mike conducted a vocal studio from his home in south Minneapolis working with singers and performers from a wide range of musical styles. Many of his students and former students are familiar to Twin Cities’ audiences including Monroe Crossing band members Lisa Fuglie and Mark Anderson, Michelle Barber, John Command, founders of Theatre de la Jeune Lune, and the KQRS radio personality and voice talent, Tom Barnard plus many others.

Ed or "Mike" has been the soloist for the Third Church of Christ, Scientist, in Minneapolis for 20+ years.
